Hello Readers, Thanks for coming to my blog. I expect lot's of comments! I have had this blog since 2003, and sometimes I wonder why I started it. Everything I write here is from my personal experience; things I find interesting, and my personal opinions on what's going on in the world. If you are offended easily this is not the blog for you. You are welcome to stay as long as you like as long as you respect my personal space. Don't make me act "ethnic". That will be all.

Unemployed- Recession enduced stress

7:09 p.m. on February 07, 2009

I am on the verge of a major break down. I’m stressing out so much that I can barely concentrate on my school work. I do all my assignments half heartedly, and put in minimal effort. It sucks because just last semester I was on the dean’s list. This semester I might not be on any list. It’s still only 5 weeks in, but I’m so stressed out about my career till it is breaking me down. On top of all of that stress my sister will be moving here in a few weeks. More stress.

Let me tell you guys what happened. I was working at my previous job under a contract for 8 months. I ended up staying longer than expected because a lady went out on maternity leave so I took over her position. There was another lady in the department that quit . The manager of the department was also out on maternity leave. The director of the department told me to apply for the open position since I already knew the job and wouldn’t need training. I wasn’t going to apply since I had gotten to a point where I was over it. I was tired of the office politics and I wanted out. I knew I needed a job so I applied.
The week before thanksgiving the director calls me in the conference room and it goes a little something like this...

Director How have you been doing?

Me: Fine

Director Well I just wanted to let you know that we are going to end the contract at the end of this week.

Me: Okay

Director But, I wanted you to apply for the open position we have now that “ex employee” is gone. What do you think about taking her position?

Me: I think it would be a great opportunity. I know the job so I wouldn’t have a problem transitioning into the role.

Director Ok, that sounds great. Is there anything you need, or any recommendation I can give to you for other offers?

Me: No not at this time, but if something does come up I will let you know.

Director Well I just wanted to say it was a pleasure having you on our team and you did an outstanding job stepping up to the plate and taking on “maternity leave lady” job.

Me: Thank you

I was told that they would be hiring for the position at the beginning of January. So It just so happens that Elizabeth and Yvonne came over to my house exchange Christmas gifts around January 10 or somewhere around that time. They were like hey we just had a panel interview Monday why weren’t you there? I was shocked because I didn’t know why I wasn’t there. They were like you should call “Director” and tell her you are still interested in the position. So I called her and left a message. The next morning I get an email from the recruiter that said

Hi Ebonie,

I know you were on contract with us in Disability Management, and I wanted to send a more personal email letting you know that the manger decided to go with a candidate that was more qualified for the job. I wish you the best of luck in our job search.

Sincerely,
Recruiter

Me: Blank stare

The director was the one who pushed me more than once to apply for the position. Elizabeth and Yvonne were like that’s bullshit. They interview two other people who needed training and knew nothing about the job. Plus you had way more experience than all of them. I just stared out the window. They were all pissed off about it when I forwarded them the email. I don’t know what happened between Thanksgiving and January for her to switch up on me like that, but I really wish she wouldn’t have pushed me to apply for a job she had no intentions of offering me in the first place. I was annoyed, then angry, then sad, then annoyed again.

So now that we are up to date let’s talk about my current depression. (Yes this blog is long, and you don’t have to read it) Since I have been off work I have been living off my saving for 3 months because unemployment is behind about 12 weeks in processing paperwork and getting out checks. So I am now officially flat broke, my car is on the verge of getting repossessed, and I owe $380 on my rent for February that is due on the 20th before I go through the eviction process. I have been looking for a job every single day. I am on Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, Craigslist.com, HireHR.com, Googlejobs.com, Hotjobs.com and I got nothing. No one is hiring, I keep getting hits for some type of telemarketing job. It’s so annoying. Hopefully, I can get a financial aid check soon and I can pay my rent for March and April and see about keeping my car out of repo auctions.

Till next time…
